If We’d Stayed
By: Micah Rauchon
You said you wanted to stay there forever
Nestled in the bed sheets we messed up the night before
Staring as the disco ball rotated on your ceiling
You took my hand and urged the clock to cease for us
Had we stayed like we were then i’d be with you now
Traversing the city you were raised in
The east coast our oyster
No pun intended
Had we stayed I’d be calling you mine between bites of LA life
Your family would make fun of my ignorance to the distance between the Bay and LA
Nights would be illustrated by car rides and beach filled shoes
And i’d look at you on Hollywood sunsets and wish we could stay that way forever
If we’d stayed i’d tuck this flower behind your red hair and watch as the sun gave you the perfect background
But we didn’t stay and your not here
Now the town you call home is overtaken by a foreigner you deported from your life
